Stallholder Information

When is New Rags Market?

We will endeavour to hold a market four times a year, with the opportunity to exhibit loyal stall holders at our ‘Pop Up’ stores throughout the year. The market times are from 9am until 3pm (subject to change). All stall holders are required to stay for the full market, unless otherwise arranged. If you choose to leave earlier this will result in stall being placed in a place that will not be disruptive to the flow of the market.

The Hall will be open from 7am on the day of the market for stall holders to set up. You must be present by 8:30am; this ensures we can make alterations if needed to benefit all stallholders. Please contact us directly to ensure your spot. Once you have received confirmation, your stall will be booked.
New Rags Market reserves the right to select stalls that we feel fits the standards of the market. Payment of fees will secure your place in the market. All Stalls must be paid for 3 working days before each market is held. An unpaid stall will directly be allocated to others wanting it. If you for any reason are unable to attend you must notify New Rags Market directly giving 5 days’ notice, thus allowing us to replace your stall. If stall fee has been paid you will receive market credit, this can be used towards other stalls or events we hold. Refunds are at the discretion of the Market Curator.

December 6, Christmas night market

How much is a stall?
There are two stalls sizes available: Large: $40.00, 3 meters wide by 3 meters deep. Standard: $30.00, 2.5 meters wide by 1.5 meters deep -these stalls are placed in the centre of the market. All stalls come with the use of a trestle table which is 1.8 meters wide.
Our Christmas night market is always a very popular event. Stall prices for these are large $55 and a standard stall is $40. We encourage you to be in touch asap as stalls always fill fast.
We are very limited for space; we cannot stress enough the importance of listing all that you bring with you in the application. We encourage stall holders to use the space to the best of their advantage. Any breach of space may require the stallholder to be moved. It is very important that you communicate what you are bringing so that we can endeavour to meet your needs. Please take all rubbish that has been generated by your stall.
This cost includes advertising, power and rent of the hall for the day.

How do I book a stall?
Email newragsmarket@gmail.com with the filled in application, found on the 'stallholder application' at the top of this page (well, under the logo).   With your application, please send a detailed description of what you intend to sell. Please ensure as much information is given as possible, including photos. You will receive a confirmation email from the curator once accepted.
Once confirmation is received, all stalls must be pre-paid via a bank deposit to be secured. Your stall will only be secured by paying. You must receive confirmation first.
The stall fee can be deposited into account 38-9011-0568962-00 A McCall.
When depositing the fee, please ensure you use your name of the stall as a reference and that you print out a confirmation of payment to bring on the day.

What can I sell at New Rags Market?
We are open to most goods but there are some exceptions. Products that may not be sold are as follows:
•Live animals, fish or birds
•Fake or copies of designer brands
•No offensive or counterfeit unauthorized products
•Weapons
•Items associated with illegal use of drugs
•Products commercially produced for mass distribution that are not created by the stallholder

Food stalls are going to be in high demand at New Rags Market and availability is limited. You will need to discuss any potential food product with the curator, Abbie. Licenses need to be issued to you prior to market at no extra cost, unless the council deems your food or produce to be of high risk and require further investigation. All food stalls need to be registered a minimum of seven days before market to ensure enough time for compliance. It is the sole responsibility of the stall holder to comply with all specific legal requirements of their products they are selling.Including, but not limited to, all relevant consumer legislation and any local authority health requirements. This information can be given to you by Abbie.

Where do I park?
Parking is available in the council car park; please try not to park directly outside the town hall as we want that to be available for our customers. The Town Hall will be open for you to set up from 7 am.

How will The New Rags Market be advertised?
We will be using all social media, including Facebook, local newspapers and radio. New Rags Market will endeavour to advertise Wairarapa wide and over the hill! Your stall will be featured on the Facebook page, letting people know who will be at the Market and what you have to offer. Please upload to this page as you wish. Signage is very important for your stall as it helps to build a brand for your stall and helps with the aesthetics of the market. This is a joint creative outlet and we welcome any suggestions or feedback in which we can gain more attention and recognition for the markets. Please email your information to newragsmarket@gmail.com, or to the Facebook page. If a press release is required please contact us. We will be more than happy to help. We do ask that you please use the correct logo. Please email Abbie for the logo and any help that you may need along the way. Consent: All consent for the management of the New Rags Market has been done in compliance for the Masterton District Council. You, as a stallholder, will be required to follow the directions from the New Rags Market curator to ensure the compliance with Masterton District council’s request. To ensure the continuation of these markets, it is essential that you as a stallholder comply with these requirements. Any breach in this agreement may see the termination of your stall.

Stall presentation
This area is the most often overlooked - yet most important, think of this as your own wee shop. Not only do we want the markets to look good for our customers, most importantly we want your product to have the very best chance of selling well at the markets. There is no point spending so much time perfecting your product when it’s just displayed sitting flat on a table without that professional touch.
Put the effort into creating great displays by: having items at eye level, everything is easily accessible and clearly priced. Signage is very important for customers to see and recognise your stall and know what to expect on closer inspection. Using bad graphics, messy handwritten signs etc. is off-putting and also doesn’t compliment the hard work you have done with your range. It also sets you above your competitors, people notice great branding and often catches their eye before the product does.

Run down of ideas for you to ponder:
  • Have business cards and make them easy to find on your stall.
  • Professional presentation is always encouraged as stallholders are a reflection on the market you attend! (i.e. iron your tablecloths)
  • Signage is key to people knowing who you are, finding your stall, branding recognition and overall presentation.
  • Signage is even more effective when people can see it! Get creative - 'height' is key. Signage on your table gets lost the minute you have a couple of customers stand in front of it.
  • Less is more on print material - use one brilliant image with your logo/business name at the top.
  • Why not entice shoppers with a bowl of lollies etc.. make sure it is seasonal, i.e. not likely to melt or a wrapped lolly that can't be smudged all over your product!!
  • Try and think outside the box with the way you display your items. Again, sometimes simplicity is the key...
  • Have an emergency box packed with things like, BABY wipes (for you and all that dirty money you are handling), panadol, WATER, snacks, business cards, blue tack, pins for your tablecloth etc...
  • A simple notebook & pen can be a great way to capture people's comments, what is your hottest product that day, what have people asked for that you don't have, potential sales to follow up on.
  • Be nice to your neighbours and stick to the space you have been allocated.
  • If you are feeling a little disgruntled with the organisers, it's best not to complain to your neighbours nor customers - the crafting community is very small and there are such things as secret shoppers :-)
  • Look interested!!! Looking bored isn't very appealing to customers and please don't bring the paper or a book to read!
  • A chair is handy but only on your break or for your helper.
  • Everyone loves a friendly stall-holder as long as you let them peruse your stall comfortably - they are more likely to make a purchase if you aren't watching them like a hawk or looking like a desperate 'rabbit in the spotlight - dying for a sale'.
  • Most of all have fun, try and visit some other stalls - you never know you could make a few friends and score some fabulous market loot yourself!
